Default Merc 454 water pumps

Can they run in both directions?

What is a good after-market replacement for these tings - hopefully bi-directional and aluminum? (Closed cooling/heat exchanger system)

Thanks Guys

Get in touch with BUP on here. I think he sells quality ones. So many junk ones out there. Automotive ones will not last.

YOU have to watch out what is bought. It all goes by the internal IMPELLER - yes the water circ pumps have what is called an metal impeller that pulls and directs the water flow. The rotation of the pump depends on how your belts are set up especially the serpentine belt the way that is routed.

A story from last year. A boater brought his boat into me and it was over heated badly. He circ pump WAS NOT Bi directional because of the internal impeller installed from the maker. Yes the pump pulley & shaft rotated in either direction but the internal impeller was only a ONE direction flow.

Long story short - He ended up with a blown engine because of the water circ pump he bought on the cheap from ebay. He told me it said in the Ebay ad --- Marine Big block in the description. Heads up you have to watch out what is bought. SO after fact what did he really saved buying on the cheap - he saved alright with a blown engine because of that darn cheap pump. .

Mine are BI directional and made for MARINE USE no mater of the cooling set up and no matter of the belt set up / rotation. Gaskets are included. Made here in the USA and shipped to me personally on a pallet from the maker.
