Another Oil Thread - Amazon Basics 20w50
Lots of unsponsored YouTube videos are raving about the new line of Amazon Basics engine oil. All the reviews are of the lighter weight synthetic oils which prove to be very good. I'm switching 3 of my cars to the synthetic oil. I bought Amazon Basics 20w50 conventional oil for the '82 Mustang hot rod.These oils have the highest ratings but no one has figured out who makes it yet. Anyway I'm wondering how this new oil stands up to Valvoline VR1 20w50 and if it would be good oil to run in the 525 EFI. Any thoughts?

The API label for the Amazon --- SN PLUS is the latest offering for GDI / VVT engines to help against LOW SPEED PRE IGNITION.
Yes that is correct LOW SPEED PRE IGNITION
This is the latest studies that has been taking place for the past 2 years from the OEM auto manu and some outside testing.
I have to follow all the GDI / VVT stuff because it on Marine engines for the past 4 years. And the Marine OEM s are way behind with their training all about GDI / VVT compared to anything the auto side has.
So I take and sign up for training om the OEM auto side as well about GDI / VVT. I am pro active about OEM training regardless and the cost involved.
GDI has alot of issues with carbon deposits on the back side of the valves. On the marine side the same but also on the GDI injectors -- carbon up like crazy. Marine side has alot of idle rpm times and alot longer warm up times and alot more on / off the throttles and alot MORE HEAT SOAK than a GDI auto engine ever would have.
We the marine side have no fans or air hitting the engine nor air hitting the exhaust after shut down and the marine cats do not help with heat soak after engine shut down.
Motor oil and on time changes is very important for VVT engines and GDI / VVT engines Just saying

It has an SN Plus rating while most oils have the SN rating. Not sure why. What weight mobil 1 do you guys get at Walmart? The Amazon 20w40 is $20 delivered to your door for a 5 qt. jug. If it's on par with Valvoline VR1 then it would be convenient to switch.
