Expectations of -2 Sportmasters on a Baja
I have a 40 Outlaw with 500 EFI's. Thinking about putting on some -2 Sportmaster lowers. What can I expect? Do I need to change my prop hubs? With they bolt up to my Bravo 1's? Will I gain speed? Will I throw a rooster? Is it worth the money? How much can I get for my stock lowers?

The extension box gives you leverage and the shorty gets the prop higher out of the water. I dont think shorties by themselves will give you more than 1mph, maybe even net zero if you are lucky, they might even lose speed EVEN if they are shorter. On a 70 MPH boat IMCO lowers will probably slow you down, they did on my boat the first time around. The bravo lowers do much better at these speeds. Bravos give you more bow lift. If you do boxes and shorties you are looking at a minimum of $8000 investment and a LOT of labor and time. Just put the money into heads and cams get real gains.

^^^^ This. 4-500 Hrs on the boat? Fresh top ends (+ what Keith suggested above if in the budget), go thru ignition system and fuel system. 500EFI Injectors are notorious for many issues, some you do not realize because of the slow degrade in performance over time. Have the injectors tested, flowed and most likely you'll end up replacing a bunch of them.

I was told by someone a while back that the hull will ride too wet no matter what you do, think it needs longer lifting strakes to lift it better, I don’t see the shirties hooking good enough to give it the needed leverage to gain anything, I’m with the guy that said 0 gains or a loss doing it. Getting on plane would be a nightmare I bet too.

Both JT and myself understand. We both have 33+ Bajas & Both of us have extension boxes and shorties.

Would it pop a rooster?
Why would getting on plane be a problem? I dont see that being an issue... maybe I overlooked something.
