I guess I should have ask what heads and cams would be recommended. These motors being 4 bolt mains and 6qt pans I am ok with turning 5500rpm

A good set of large ovals and rpm air gap intake but someone way smarter than me will have to recommend a cam.

No shortage of love for the Crane 741 cam. A bigger pan seems like a good idea though.

vortec heads (will require a little machine work), comp cams xm270HR, edelbrock intake, holley marine carb.

I know people have reported good results running the lt4 hotcam as well.

What exhaust does your boat have?

Thank you for your reply Russ.I was wanting to stay with 23deg. heads , I was thinking something with 64cc chambers to get me to a little over 10-1 and 200cc intake runners. As for the cams, a lil hotter the 278 and a airgap dual plane. They have the stock iron logs with the risers changed to go straight out the transom (3"). Im sure that will be my limiter.

My apologies I assumed this was a lower power BBC. Hard to beat vortec heads when upgrading older SBC's

The vortec heads are 23 degree heads and they also have 64cc chambers. They do not have 200cc intake runners, but I think that may be a little overkill for en engine running 5500RPM or lower.

Of course Edelbrock and AFR make nice heads that would work well. When I put my small block together, I went with the Edelbrock heads.
