Talking test electric's with motors out

i want to check out new bilge pump , make sure its working before i put motors back in boat. (as you cant get to anything when motors are in )
i think............ plug in motor harness,then put power to where starter would be.....
then ground the batreries togethter??

i did this several years ago,,and think this is what i did.
yes ....no........comments....

Motors should be totally separate of all that. On mine all the stuff works with em out.

correct, I used an old engine harness and tapped everything off except the red starter and block ground, so hook those two to the red and black battery cables, connect the cannon plug, turn the perko switch on and it works, hook to starboard engine in most cases.
