So you can purchase an additional 5 years of Mercury Platinum Protection for a Total of 8 Years of Coverage on the 400r.
Anyone that has one have any thoughts on how they are holding up. Retail for the additional 5 years is in the 14k range; however dealer will discount at time of boat/engine purchase.

Per engine.
I have done numerous searches and can’t find that much info on how many hours people have on 400s or any issues with them. They seem to be holding up or people aren’t talking about them if they are failing?
Of course who knows about year 7 or 8 when they get there.

How long and how hard are you going to run the boat? Would you want more HP in 5 years? There are a lot of those motors in service now but I don’t know when they start having problems. I would do some more research and then factor in whether I think I will still want that boat and power after 5-7 years. If you are going to keep the boat and motors, buy the warranty. If not, roll the dice and hope you don’t have a serious run of expensive repairs.

I would say how many hours do you think you will put on. If you are someone that runs 300-400 hours per year maybe worth it but will it cover normal wear?
what i mean is if they start loosing compression around 2000-3000 hours will merc just say thats not covered?

14k???? That's about 40% of the MSRP cost of a 400R.
