Default Does a small block with a roots style blower need premium fuel?

Just curious if it possible to run 87 or is premium always required?

Any more info ?

That being said, big chances are no, it should use premium.

But that answer has as much info as the opening post.

depends on how much compression in engine and amount of boost. higher the total compression the higher the need for high octane so you dont blow up pistons (detonation).

Thats like asking if you always need an umbrella when its cloudy out.

if your static compression is 7.5:1 and your running 3 psi of boost with an intercooler and aluminum heads...no

If your static compression is 9:1 and your running 7 psi of boost, the answer is yes

If your somewhere in between, you need to break out the slide rule.

I wouldn't run 87. Gas is cheaper than a rebuild.

Skip down to effective comp ratio. You can run about 9.0 CR on 87 octane.

The struggle is real. We had 2 marinas with 93 on our lake - both of them dropped it this summer. My marina added mid-summer, but only in a 2000 gallon tank, so on busy weekends it goes fast.

I resorted to filling up on land and run till its gone.
