Default lower unit external drive coolers

I’m looking for information/comments on external coolers for outdrives. I recently purchased a 1987 242 Ls (finally a Formula owner) and am thinking of installing one for next season. I want to thank everyone who replied to my posts over the last couple of weeks. what a good way to get information for boat owners.
Thanks,
Tony S

It never hurts to have a drive shower. Especially if you are going on long runs. Being yours is an 87 I would imagine it's an alpha drive. Kind of a heavy boat to be running an alpha so it would appreciate the shower even more. You certainly will not have any draw backs from installing one.

Can't say enough good things about the Simrek Drive Showers (www.driveshowers.com) This is who Formula uses. I just ordered a new set of the Halo for my Bravo III's on my 2005 370SS, and it took about 20-30 minutes to install on both drives.

I previously had a good experience with their Halo model on a 1990 Scarab with Bravo One's when I installed Simrek Halo's about a year or two after they hit hit the market. My drives were 25 years old when I sold the boat, and all I did was change the lube, grease the universals and replaced the o-rings annually. Those drives had over 1000 hours on them, and were never opened up. I attribute the longevity to going easy on the throttles, annual maintenance, and the drive showers combined. Check out the videos on their website.

Paul's brother in law runs the company now. His name is Chuck, and he's great to speak with. Give him a call and let him know what you're looking for. 352-729-3093
