Default Vortech on 454's?

I happen to run into someone with the same boat as me while out this weekend. He happens to have vortech superchargers on his 454's I have the exact same boat just stock ( Baja 29' outlaw) he hasn't been able to sell his boat so he's debating pulling them off and selling them. Im thinking about jumping on the deal but Im also worried and thinking about what else I should do on my end. I have approx 580 hrs on both motors and so far have been pretty lucky with zero issues. Is there something I should do to my motors before even thinking about installing them?

Putting superchargers on 580hr engines is like lighting a short fuse on a time bomb.

Like griff said, waste of time to supercharge those motors at that high of hours without going into them. Valve springs are sacked out and head gaskets are prob on verge of leaking amongst other things, Smitty

What year did they start making the internals forged? They're from 2001

Thats why I wanted to ask beforehand. But are you saying its not worth it all? Or I should at least rebuild them first before even attempting to put them on. Only reason Im asking is because he wants to sell me both complete polished kits for $5,000

It’s not just a matter of forged internals, but ring gaps, better gaskets, servicing injectors, etc. so it would be a wise move to build it once and be done, then party on Wayne!

Forged internals would be worth rebuilding, cast is a waste of time with a supercharger.

How do I know if I have cast or forged internals? I can't seem to find the year when they made the switch

I think the 454 and 502 Mag engines were forged, others were cast...........who really knows besides looking at the crank part #.......I opened up a 502 Mag MPI one time and found Manley H beam rods, these were typically in the 500 and 525 EFI engines
