This is a winter time point of discussion only I am not in the market and love the both boats just curious on why there are so many 2018/2019 O/B cats with less than 100 hours for sale? As of today there were 7 MTI's and 3 Skater's for sale some of these boats appear to be custom ordered like the gold and black 28' Skater with Merc 300R's which was even featured in a recent Speed on the Water story. I assume some are dealer demo boats but that only accounts for a couple, is it really possible to order a boat of this caliber and then get bored with it after 50 hours? Anyone have a theory?

I think most of them are with Merc 400's. Probably has something to do with Mercury now offering a 450 and the owners upgrading to new boats with new power.

I know MTI is coming out with a bigger OB cat so that’s probably why there’s so many 340Xs for sale. If it were just the motors I’d think it’d be much easier and quicker to re-rig with 450s and just sell the 400s but I could be wrong.

I would agree with that unless there is difficulty/expense in rigging the new motors. The new 450's have a completely new architecture so I am wondering if it much more difficult than just bolting on the new motors. I don't know and am just speculating.

Personally, I am very interested in a used outboard cat with 400's once a few years pass and they get within my budget.

Actually i'm told its more work and all new electronics and wiring so it's not just a unbolt and rebolt situation so it's not really very cost effective to switch a 400 boat to a 450 boat.
My theory was and is that the 400 boats will get sold off and people who want the latest and greatest power will upgrade the boats because to sell a 400 boat and upgrade to a new 450 boat is probably close to the same $ as it would take to re rig the original boat with 400's and switch it to 450's

You are absolutely correct. The 390X is amazing. I had the opportunity to drive it in KW, a game-changer. I know there are 13-14 boats on order already.

To the original post question: Many of the people I know who've bought sport cats are in a financial position to order a new boat every one to three years. From the perspectives of cost, re-sale/trade-iin value (enhanced greatly by transferrable outboard engine warranties) and build time (that's a big one), that's a whole lot easier to do with a 28- to 39-foot sport cat than it is with, let's say, a 36- to 52-foot stern-drive catamaran.

It's definitely not my financial playground, but I'm thrilled that it is for more than a few folks I know.
