Rochester Offshore Battleship Run July 18, 2020
#1
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm optimistic that this summer is going to be another great one. One big reason I feel that way is that the Rochester Offshore Powerboat Association (ROPA) is holding their 30th annual Battleship Run on beautiful Seneca Lake in upstate New York the weekend of July 18 & 19, 2020. Yes, you did read that right. This is the 30th time this great event has been held on the very same lake on the very same weekend with the very same great folks.
You don't just put something on for 30 years in a row, you earn the right to put something on for 30 years in a row. And these folks know how to do it right. Unlike some events that cost a fortune to enter and practically require you to own a million dollar boat (and truck to tow it with), this one is more laid back and comfortable. And yes, you can actually have a great time with a boat that doesn't run 160 MPH. (Not that we don't have a few of them show up.)

We are still going on the hope that it will happen as scheduled. There would be no alternate date this year if not.
There are some minor hurdles that can be overcome but we are at the mercy of this pandemic and the government and those remain to be seen.
The positive side is the venue has been in contact with officials and they believe it will be able to work. So far only 1 person has cancelled their room reservation. so we believe the participants want to still come.
I have asked the board to extend the early registration discount until July 1, due to the uncertainty, and am hopefull we will do that.
Hang in there and be safe! We are all hoping to celebrate together this year!

Well, let's just say it ran off the hose in the driveway last week. But that's better than not hitting the water until July the last 7 years or so. Retiring from my job at the marina and taking a new one with far fewer hours has its advantages!
