Default Service Recommendations: Volvo DPX ('01 353 Fastech)

Hey Everyone,

I am looking to find a reputable Volvo service center for my 353 Fastech with DPX drives located in South Florida. Any recommendations? Currently, the shifting is not smooth and both drives struggle to find neutral. Both drives were replaced less than 50 hours ago I would say. Thanks for the help!

Did you refill the drive or have it serviced with Merc traditional type gear lube? The Volvo's are VERY particular with the synthetic oils in order to shift properly.

It's probably your shift interrupter. I think Innovation has them.

Thats a good point. Maybe the wrong oil was put in by my old mechanic. Either way, will need a good place to get it done down in FL

Only use the Volvo synthetic oil in the drives. Could likely be the cable adjustment barrel nut which is just behind the rear cover. When the drives are worked on/reinstalled that adjustment has to be done pretty carefully. Not hard to do at all, just has to be done carefully.

Call Innovation Marine. they are one of only a handful of places that can actually do quality work on the DPX drives. They were heavily involved with Volvo during the DPX production and have extensive knowledge of them.

years ago when we ordered 5 gallon buckets of Volvo oil for the the SX / SX Cobra / DP / DPX and even including in the Volvo owners manual was Mobil one 75 w - 90 Gear oil GL 5 spec.

On the 5 gallon pals delivered to the shop from Volvo - the Mobil One stickers were on the 5 gallon pals.

Later years, Volvo came out / bottled their brand name gear oil in which was made by Amsoil 75w - 90 GL 5 spec gear oil.

The shift shoe may need adjusted. Its a simple task done without breaking into the drive. Mention it to the tech when you find one. Id do it for you but Im in Missouri. Dont believe shift interrupters are used on this drive.
