Default SSM 5 Cavitation plates

I did a search, couldn't find the thread. I remember someone adding cavitation plates to SSM 5 drives?

Anyone here have experience with this? Thinking it may help me get on plane quicker?

thanks Dan. Yep, would have to go in with the spacer. Wondering if I can drill into my spacers to make it happen, otherwise you are basically making a spacer with a wing on the back of it. That's gonna be some work; o-ring grooves, pins, etc.

Also, I thought you already had that done? I had BBlades do one set, didn't really make any difference... Encouraged to hear what you end up with. 4 or 5 blade?

I have set of Merc 5 blades that should solve your problem.
Don't drill #5 case for cav plate they are in short supply and from what I heard they don't help.

Anyone ever try cutting back some of the plate at rear of housing to improve flow somewhat to upper portion of prop? Looks like on a straight bottom Cig 38 I am loosing 7.3 degrees of negative trim due to Merc transom assy. Anyone ever try modifying drive to allow for more negative trim? Adding minimum .100" cup to 18" dia four blades definetly helps but still could use some help on over 30 pitch wheels. I am leaning on removing maybe 3/4" of rear portion of plate. May be of some help.

Did you ever end up putting on a cavitation plate or are you still looking for one?
