This is a pure opinion post.
What do you think is a respectable speed for an offshore boat?
What speed makes you "dash it"?

It all depends on what you respect. If your on a lake or on the ocean. Are you topping out at 100mph, or are you crusing at 80mph on the snottiest stuff you've seen out on ocean?
Let's take Jet Set for example. Twin turbines. Hands down, fast. Very, very, very fast. Fastes in New Jersey. But what does he hit if he's out in the ocean?

About 5 mph more than your current top speed, at least this year! Actually it would be what is attainable within reasonable cost for your hull and safe. You could make a 21-ft. hull go 100+ but is it safe and or practical for the waters you boat in. On an inland lake why not? If the same hull was primarily used in an area with a lot of boat wake or a lot of chop then what’s the point? If you had a 32-foot twin that was used on protected bays and it would smash down 4 footers at WOT of 60 but you used it on an inland lake or calm area it would be a dog.
Say you ran a decent speed now, whatever that is. Many boats your size are not quite as fast or don't ride as well etc. Now you go plunk down 15k for engine mods. Well you can now beat them all, but was it worth it? Would you been better off to spend 5k and be faster than most? Always someone faster, not always someone wiser.

What do you think is a respectable speed for an offshore boat?
I'm talking Deep V,
90 in a lake assuming it's calm
60-70 in the Ocean with 2-4 footers
What speed makes you "dash it"?
90 plus if by "dashing it" you mean wide open
Is there a speed that, if you reach it, people talk about it?
90 plus and it's gotta be on the recall GPS
What kind of speed in your local area makes you top dog?
90 - 95
Actually, all this is very subjective. At the end of the day your speed really depends on what you as a driver can safely handle and not endanger your self or other boaters.
Also 70 in my Cigarette and 70 in my Taylor Jet are two way different experiences.
One other thing is cruise speed. Most anyone can post a "big" number once. But I am much more impressed by the boats that can maintain a comfortable cruise speed. A steady 60-70 in the open ocean to me is much more indicative of good equipment and driver than a one time big number.
I am big on, be comfortable and don't boat for pure top end but instead for what is appropriate for the situations and just be safe.
Better to go slow and live to boat another day than to rush it and cause a mishap.
