Default How much to convert race canopy to open cockpit

TNT marine in Miami always has deals it seems to me on 46 skater two man canopy race boats usually with 1500 Sterling's #6 and crash boxes and trailer. To me the drive train and trailer are worth more then what there asking for the whole boat found one for 150k. How much does it cost to have the two man canopy taken out and a open regular six man seating for poker runs. How much to convert????

Well, do you want a simple cockpit and do you want them to re-do the dash too? Im guessing $40K with a dash redo and new controls.

The number of people on here that have undertaken such a project are only a few. You would be best served to call Tony or Peter at Skater... or Chris Mills at Boat Customs in Caledonia Michigan (Low Low Altitude, Prototype Skater O/B, Freedom 46' Skater and a host of other wrap around windshield installs)

Boat Customs - Is that who just did the red MTI update?

To the OP, if you do a flat dash and gauges with a simple gunnel design, sure you could do it under $25/30K. But you'll be doing a lot of work. There was recently an almost new outboatd cat down in Deerfield for sale with 400's and no interior and I thought about it for about 5 minutes. Like speicher said, its a big undertaking. Unless you want a really really simple race interior, its gonna be a big job.

I'll bet you're going to easily be 100k+. Interior alone will be 30k because everything has to be built from scratch. Add gauges, gps, controls, stereo, and flooring. That's not even starting the wrap around conversion that's very labor intensive. Oh...and don't forget about paint because you know that old race boat has battle scars and new paint isn't going to match the old paint. Don't forget about the fuel tanks if they haven't been replaced. That's why old race boats are cheap.
