Default Bbc 454 gen 4 overhaul part 2

I need some assistance I'm guessing the stock spring retainers will not work with the comp 930-16 valve springs and also these springs say I need head machine work done what the hell it doesn't look like I need anything but different retainers can some one shed some light on what to do about this thanks

New spring with old retainer on it i was looking at the over hang

Who spec'd the 930 springs? What cam? They seem light. Also, my head guy tries to stay away from the 930's. Back in the day the majority of the failed springs he saw were 930's. This was 15-20 yrs ago. The steel probably has changed since then.

This cam the sales man I bought this from recommend the valve springs but now I worry he had no idea what the hell he was talking about especially when he said would work with stock retainers I now found that was incorrect

I wouldn't worry too much. Those springs have been thousands of builds and are not deemed bad. This was just an issue my builder saw maybe 20yrs ago. S#it happens in manufacturing.

Check the valve guide clearance and install height regarding the machine work.

Does anyone know what diameter the stock valve stems are in a stock 454 gen 4 365hp ????

They should be 3/8 or .373

Do you have a picture of your heads without the springs on them ?
