Default carbed mercruiser 502's to 496 mags

hey guys looking for some help, I'm in the process of repowering a Formula 41pc, has mercruiser Bluewater 502's in it now (carbed) but one is blown other is on its way out, came across a pair of 496 mags complete that i cant pass up, question is the wiring harness from motor to cockpit is it the same plug/ pin connector or does the newer motors require a new harness or a rework? thanks in advance

I think your answers are here:

Repower to 496mag ho harness?

It looks like it depends on the generation. Older used a 10-pin harness plug while newer used a 14-pin harness. There is an adapter that was made at some point. See the link above. Good information.
