Seems to me if speed was the only object you would go with something smaller but either way its kind of cool.
Nothing wrong with electric motors, the issue is storage. A lot of the newer cars seem pretty good but pushing a boat through or over water is still a lot of drag.

I do remember back in the desert racing 2 stroke days....the kids who thought they were fast wanted motors that came on the pipe hard. I wanted a motor that that "ran like an electric motor" no hit, no coming on the pipe, no powerband...just smooth ever increasing linear power as you twisted the throttle. It felt slower but was indeed faster and less tiring to ride.
