Default Who’s blown a Imco SCX or SCX-4?

Lost one this weekend and almost the other one. Probably right around 100hrs on them behind 825hp whippled 525 efi’s. It’s power boating, this sh!t happens, just curious who else has lost them and if they know how. They’re on their way to Mr. Gadgets (Dicks performance marine in Holland MI) for rebuilds so he’ll get some answers when he opens them up but just curious what others have seen.

I think so, thinking clutch related but not sure. The more I think about it I’m thinking it’s a heat issue with not a lot of water flowing through the drive being they’re mounted so high

Last year was our first year with it so I can’t speak to maintenance before that but have no reason to believe the recommended wasn’t followed. I had the drives off this offseason and switched sides then.

They’ve also been slinging 17.25” diameter cleavers from the get go so that may have something to do with it as well.

From what I know, the gear sets are the same as Mercs. So many of the things on the imcos are better and stronger but I'm 90% sure the gear sets are no better than a merc xr set.
There are guys around here that have 900-1100 hp in front of them and they seem to be having rebuilds every 30-100 hrs. I've seen multiple sets with the gear faces tearing away at each other.

In the IMCO SC gears are the same as the XR's but there's no comparison to the SCX

One of the best drive shops is right around the corner, CK Performance Marine(Mike Holford)

Guy can go through a drive like Forest GUMP with his rifle….won’t find a more honest guy than Holford.
