Where I'm at With two counties side by side in the top 5. Pinellas having 53,867 and Hillsborough 41,495 vessel registrations, it makes for a lot of boats. Not like Miami-Dade 74,622 and Broward 47,741 counties which has 27,000 more than us.

From 2002, twenty years ago.
After years on top, Michigan concedes its title as the number one boating state in the country to California, whose residents registered 1,051,606 recreational boats in 2002. Michigan is the second largest state, with a little more than 1,000,000 boats registered.
A lot of these numbers are dependent on what type and size boat requires a registration. For a number of years Minnesota required a registration for a paddle boat, some do for canoes.
