Default Hour meter issue?

Well, my hour meter just went out.
If I replace the hour meter gauge, will the computer module on the 496 Mag hold the hours and just display on the new guage?
Is there more to it than just switching it out?

thanks

The ECM will not change and will maintain current info. The ECM doesn't display data on a hour meter gauge.

To set current hrs on new gauge, it must have power to it for that long. So, before installing, wire to any 12volt battery directly and set your phone alarm to when you need to unhook it. A calendar alarm day before is good idea too.

Also, are you sure siring to old gauge isn’t go blame vs gauge being bad ? Simple test light or voltmeter can determine this.
