Oil pan baffle
#1
My machine shop finally stripped down my engines for refresh. We found in both oil pans the baffle broke part into pieces. Crankshaft everything looks ok except he feels that the pieces possibly could have blocked part of the oil pick up.. there could be the reason for less oil on top of engine
Is there a reason for them. Do i need to change the oil pans? Thanks in advance.

Wow! That is impressive! Especially to have it happen to both motors.
Do you have stock stroke cranks? The factory pan/baffle isn't good at keeping windage at bay on a stock crank let alone a stroker. You would be much further ahead to get a larger pan with better windage tray.

Windage is huge on these big motors. I have seen tests where 40hp is gained by changing oil pans, although this was on a moderate stroker. Spend the money and get a better pan with a good windage tray.

These motors were built in 2003 before I got it. Who knows how long its been like this. What can cause that baffle to break apart? It also did not cause any engine damage.
