I ordered my truck without a 5th wheel ... what is involved in getting that installed ..?

It's a doable DIY job, at least it was when I installed a B&W gooseneck hitch in my '02 2500HD. Important distinction too between 5th wheel and gooseneck, they are not interchangeable if you're buying a hitch, though adapters are available.
Hardest part is cutting the hole in the bed in the right spot. Everything else is pretty straightforward if it's a well engineered kit.

It's easy....drill some holes tighten some bolts...couple hour job at best. Buy a good one however...B&W was mentioned or from the dealer...can't remember if you have a dodge or chevy but all the big 3 offer a hitch kit for their trucks just a matter of if you can get one...

The Ram has a cast iron gooseneck plate that sits under the inside one of the frame cross members and is held in with 4 bolts. Probably easiest to remove the bed to instal. Ram and other companies offer a removable ball and safety chain hooks. It's really pretty easy to install with the bed off and the bed comes off easy. 4 -6 guys can lift it.
The 5th wheel drops into the 4 pucks that install into the frame. Again bed needs dry be removed. I think you could have a fifth wheel without the gooseneck but not the gooseneck without the fifth wheel since the safety chains clip into 2 of the fifth wheel pucks. Might as well install all 4 pucks and the center gooseneck plate while the beds off.
I have a new aluminum 40' triple axle deckover tag trailer you can use too bad we are not closer.
