Default Blue 500 EFI

Looking at a Baja with twin Blue 500EFI's that are still factory sealed with around 400 hrs. Can anyone chime in on what to watch out for or look for on these engines?

Thanks

When I was looking at used boats last year, I asked Eddie Young at Young Performance about what to look for with Merc engines. He's extremely knowledgeable with an excellent reputation. I'd suggest contacting him.

If you're going to break the factory seal might as well throw some power at it. Heads, cam and tune should squeeze another 100HP out of them. We have a 33 Outlaw at one of our local lakes in central IL w/ a Brad Smith upgrade for 500efis. The boat sounds and runs really strong.

Biggest thing is valve springs, head gaskets and valve seats. Did mine at 320 hours now have 780, last 10 in salt still running great.

Stock rockers..

Had 2 out of 3 engines never opened at 1100 hours, and one at 900 hours. The 900 hours broke a valve, i wanted to rebuilt engines anyways... so in your case i would do top ends only and might see above 1100 hours!
