Default Exhaust Question?

I have ss headers with silent choice exhaust on a 496 HO with angled tips with baffles. No flaps. Is there any reason to worry about water getting into the cylinders when I’m sitting with the motor off and waves crash into the transom?

I don't have any experience with getting reversion.. but when I redid my exhaust on the boat I got straight cut tips, even though I like the look of angled, because it was recommended to get Saulsberry flappers and tips with internal flappers as a precaution. Might be overkill, but its better than water in the engine.

Given the shape of some swim platforms that can trap water when a wave comes from behind I can't see how water would not enter the pipe, how far it makes it is another story. My Baja Force 235 swim platform has had cruiser wakes hit it from behind and make a boom/thud sound when it gets trapped just right. With that said, I have Teague switchable tips (closed in engine off position) and flaps on tips.

Edit-
I see you said you have baffles, pic of the baffle or link? I see these are 4" ID tip w/integrated baffle. I wonder if would be possible to get a replacement baffle for a tip like that and retrofit?

Fab up a little bracket inside or such

And here is a kit, you would need to drill the holes, could be a real PITA and if inside would need sealed.

I like the Corsa tips with the internal flapper. I think that might be my best bet. Thanks for the info!

I have those on my boat, along with the external flappers. Haven't had any issues. I'm still over cautious when coming off plane and give it some throttle before the wake catches up but that's mostly out of habit from my previous boat.

The internal flappers if working correctly should keep water from going into the pipes Activating the silent choice to be closed position will also stop water

Griff,

Don't know about other boats, but my silent choice cuts out when I shut the engine off. You can actually hear the exhaust get loud again for a split second as the engine stalls to a stop. It also doesn't kick back in after startup until I shut it off then turn it back on.

Thanks. Brad.
