K Planes are powdercoated from the factory. The hardest thing is stripping the old powdercoat.
I have a set of 280 K Plane plates for sale in the Swap Shop and they would prob cost less than having yours stripped and repowdercoated.

BTW, you can't send or receive PM's until you have at least 10 posts on OSO. If you need to, just make 3 more post in this thread with 8, 9, 10 in them

Is there anything special about the powder coat used on these?

I may want to have mine powder coated again as they are showing a few spots of minor corrosion.

I doubt there is anything special, but the key is the prep. It will still cost more to strip and powdercoat than to buy a set of clean used plates.

i stripped and powdered a set of k-planes for my old stinger....took me a LOOONG time in the sand blaster booth at work. There are a few strippers that do put dents in it though....i have heard that the primer for PVC piping seems to attack it good. Never tried it though. I used an aircraft paint stripper and did a couple rounds of that placed in a garbage bag so it doesn't dry out...then i took it to the blaster for the stubborn parts.
As far as powder goes..talk with the powder coating guys...they usually know what they are doing. The guy i took it to, put what i felt, a thicker coating on them after i told him they would be in the water all the time when boats in the water. He also baked them to off-gas any chemicals before coating that may be left behind so the powder doesn't bubble during curing..
