I saw an add for this in the Nov/Dec Hot Boat magazine, has anyone used one? or Does anyone think its worth it or is it just a gimmick?

Nope. Search for the thread in technical Q&A, we discussed it there. Certianly a lot of money for a magnet.

I did the next best thing....while working at motorola we had more then a few broken computers....i took a hard drive appart once to see whats inside. The magnets they use inside those things are amazing! Put on on each side of your hand and they will stay up from the magnetic fields they generate! So i put one on the oil filter and one on the oil pan just above the oil drain. I dont know if its made any difference but i figure it cant hurt!

I know what you mean Wally...HD mag's are unbelievable. Better make sure your fingers are out of the way when they slam together.

The concept is of sound mind, however I have to wonder how effective it is with the increased velocities of oil in the filter. In any event, it can't hurt.

Thanks for reminding me Wally...I have a drawer-full, I may just try it.

I just received 4 of the above magnets in the mail. They packed them with a piece of sheetmetal lining the box. They said be careful handling them.

Well, what did I do ?? ...... SMASHED MY THUMB WITHIN 30 SECONDS.

I plan to place the magnets on the bottom of my oil pans. I figure it couldn't hurt. I expect them to collect any free floating metal particles.

Are there any negatives I should know about?
