Default Stepped Transom Water Pickup

Hey guys,

ive put on a few transom water pickups, but this is the first for a stepped transom. would i punch through the step to get to the true hull bottom? or mount on the transom itself? i have a pressure relief so im not worried about surges

i have a picture of the (unused) speedo pickup which is on the transom itself, im thinking of going that way. bottom mount is not an option. Assuming its on the transom itself, would I still do the standard 1/4 below the pad? or would I need to go deeper / shallower due to this hull design

thank you!

Can't find anything on the model but it's a 23' 90 Warlock with a tunnel / modv hull. Full resto, will be putting the new drive and engine in shortly

Not really a step. Just a small notched transom and the water pick up will need to be on the lowest part. Looks like one would barely fit and would need cut down a lot. CP Performance - 1-1/4" Transom Mount Water Pickup

Have used both long pickups mounted on the transom and sticking straight down and custom pickups that bend around the transom and are screwed to the bottom to get closer to the step.

Both work.

Adjust until you have bubble-free water without causing unnecessary resistance.

an awkward notch. Heres an old pic of the inside of the bilge so my fear with the CP Performance style pickup on the pad itself is not enough clearance inside to get the hose on

I like the idea of bending down the notch to get closer to the pad - wouldnt the additional bends reduce water flow? or not enough to make a difference?

thanks guys

The more I am researching and thinking, the more I am leaning towards a bottom mount similar to this: https://www.hardin-marine.com/p-1105...er-pickup.aspx

I've been warned and heard horror stories about this style causing delamination. Plus the lack of visibility for clogging isn't ideal

follow up:

I did a bit of probing before I drop $1000 on a custom pickup and found out I have a solid core notched transom, no wood. This gave me the confidence to go with a standard bottom-mounted style pickup and not having to worry about water intrusion or delamination. naturally i went overboard with 5200 but it wont be seen so Im not worried.

all thats left is to trim a bit of angle into it and mess with the depth depending on the pressure im seeing
