The infamous JBS/Low Altitude 50 ft Turbine Mystic has changed ownership and is now Pertzye. Last week I had the honor of driving for its new owner Gabe Sipos, who throttled, in the first shakedown run in North East, Maryland. I’ve known Gabe for 30 years and consider him a best friend. I sold Gabe a Prostock Cobra when I owned Proroc in NJ and he partnered with me on campaigning a Pro fuel STV in the north east part of the country, and also raced the Cobra with him in Superboat International.
The package was purchased as Turn Key although it fell far far far from expectations. Months of tedious troubleshooting the port Lycoming T-53 L 703 with assistance from helicopter mechanics and eventually us performing “if-then” evaluations solved the fuel delivery problem. General cleanup for cleanliness was ongoing with the his Team doing an amazing job of resurrecting her to what is expected from a machine of this caliber.

The mystic was mechanically ready with the exception of a faulty air conditioning and communication systems. The first shake down session went well. Driving duties were shared by myself, Scott Bellis and Paul Browne, It powered handily and quickly to 100mph without any Tunnel hop. The mystic easily pulled to 160plus mph while giving us essential seat time and understanding what she likes and what she does not. We did experience a short in the GPS Speedo which resulted in losing the Dual Garmins. First day was over, hull was trailered and inspections revealed no failures. Nothing major busted is a good day!

Day 2 began with repowering the garmins and a change of props which garnered a higher angle of attack at first. Gabe pulled the BPMs in and the bow immediately reacted to the change. I left the hatch unlocked and she let us know and Gabe quickly locked. The water was relatively calm with 1 footers and overcast skies, winds were under 10 mph. Not familiar with the area I relied on Gabe to use hand signals for direction, since I could not leave my eyes off the water at speed to check the garmins since we were covering 280ft a second and hitting a crab bouy is not a good thing. In the back seat was Paul Browne who was holding his iPhone with a GPS app. We positioned in a long clear straightaway area and Gabe bought on the heat and pulled from 160 to…. we though around 175 mph. The mystic tracked straight smooth and acceleration reminiscent of my pro fuel stv outboard drag boat, but harder. Paul’s handheld iPhone gps showed 183. At the time we did not recall the garmins although Gabe glanced at it and saw 191. I saw 188. We got back to shore and recalled. 194 mph…..at 3/4 throttle without the methanol injection engaged which gives you another 150 to 250 hp shot. WTF. The following day I had to fly back to California and Paul had the helm running a solid 188mph during his seat time.

Gabes 50 Mystic will be wrapped with an awesome design under the Pertzye banner. Pertzye is a wonderful pharma product that Gabe’s company Digestive Care produces. It treats patients with Cystic Fibrosis with an enzyme that helps patients digest their food.

The Mystic isn’t the only Thorobred in Gabe Sipos’ Team Pertzye Stable. Gabe has resurrected the 46 Bacardi Skater, which is powered by Twin 1550 Sterlings and is race ready. She is purportedly the winningest offshore race boat in history. And I’m not done, Team Pertzye has repurposed the Dambuie on Ice 40 Skater Supercat, one of one which was CNCd built and held the Supercat Kilo Record at 141ish with 750 supercat motors, setup as an unlimited Superboat and possibly future Shootout Weapon. Both of these Skaters were painstaking rerigged by Gabe himself and expert Scott Bellis over the years.

Scott enjoying the ride! McClaren Falls Turbo Power
In Closing, Team Pertzye has arrived. We do not remain anonymous and we aren’t here to make acky breaky video clips or look for internet revenue clicks. Skater experts out there please check my statements if in doubt with Peter Hledin. We all came from the small marine performance scene that have graduated to this, while never forgetting our roots and what we have learned from it as it applies today. If and when you see us out there please stop by and chat. We have a ton of good stories spanning 30 years to share.

Dave, in do time. Looking at past videos of this mystic with former owners and speeds reached we never imagined it would run that good on the first time out, full of fuel no less! let alone feeling confident of taking it there. Both Gabe and I said damm, we didn’t even start tweaking her yet, but all in good time. Many folks asked if we are going to LOTO shootout and the answer is negative. We are far from ready and want to be ultra prepared. 🤙
