Angry OT-Computer turns itself on!!!

HELP, I'm losing sleep!!

I have a Gateway puter about a year old with windows XP. Suddenly it has decided to turn itself back on at 5AM in the morning after I turn it off (using the system off icon) at about midnite.
The only way it remains off is if I shut dowon the surge protector entirely.
When I click on the off icon, it does an orderly/normal shut down and the light goes off on the power button on the front of the computer.
At 5 am it turns itself back on...

In the BIOS, there is an option for self boot. When you boot it from scratch, hit the F2, or whatever key it tells you to hit, "TO ENTER SETUP". This is probably set to turn itself on, somehow. Be very careful what you change in there. You can dork stuff up if you are not careful. Change that option, if it is on, save, and get out. Then finish booting. You should be OK.

Do you perhaps know Packinair's ex wife? Maybe she put a voodoo curse on your computer?

Check the Bios for a wake on lan connection.
if that is on the PC will turn back on. this is tied to a NIC Card.
you can also check this out under the NIC card properties in the control panel. disable the wake on lan option

Before I mess with BIOS.. Is there any thing else I can/should do?

Last night it decided to turn back on at 1:30am instead of the 5am its been doing..

Sorry for the question. I just get a tad goosy playin with BIOS.

Gateway loves to set up their computers with the "Task Scheduler" enabled. With this enabled, the computer will wake itself up at a specified time, run utilities, and the go back to sleep. If it is enabled, it should show an icon in the lower left system tray of your display.
