It depends on what side of the shifter you have the cables. The cone clutch does not know what way it is turning.

I have been told that this is common practice. I recently had the seals replaced in my Bravo xr's and the mech told me that my gear set had a crack in one of the teeth and would need replacement, but just to run until it lets go. I suggested swapping sides and he said it is a NoNo. Tres said its OK. I am confused also.........

the answer is yes. actually i would do it every 50, but it depends how hard you run the boat.

the reason why.

one drive turns clockwise and one turns counter clockwise. sooooooooooooooo to get even wear on the gears and longer life if you have the time then do it. also remember to grease the gimble bearing and drive yoke every time weather you think it needs it or not.

Check your gears very closely, several of us had bad ones in our XRs last year with 50 hours and less. There was a very long post about them and gear lube.
