496 Superchargers?

I am, like everyone else, loking for a little more power. The problem is I have a 496 HO and I have heard two different things about this engine. I like it as it is now and have put 110 hrs on it but it is time to go faster. I am just looking for a little input from anyone that has done one or feels he knows something about them. I am on a bit of a budget. I could swing the blower but I have a plain bravo 1 and wonder if it is up to the task. Sorry so long and thanks for your help.

Did you see the test in power boat comparing the whipple
and procharger on the 496? Crockett is also working on
something. Just waiting for the right thing to do. Not
willing to give up my boating season for speed. Still wondering
about reliability issues.
As for the drive, if you dont hammer it off the line I would think it would survive. I went with the xz planning on future upgrades.
Does any one have a blower on their 496? hours? problems?

Now there is an offer we can't refuse.
I am just worried about reliability of the engine and drive. I even wondered about swaping out the 496 for a 500 EFI then at least I would not worry about the engine.

The Whipple Stage 1 system is a computer recalibration that increases the maximum rpm level while maintaining a conservative timing curve for 87-octane gas. This calibration is designed to be conservative and reliable like stock, but a higher maximum rpm level for more prop selection. Stage 1 achieves only modest power increases such as 15 foot-pounds of torque and 10 horsepower.
