Default Replacing Bellow

I need to replace the u-joint bellow between the bell housing and gimbal assy. Pretty obvious how to remove it from the gimbal assy but how do you remove it from the bell housing? It appears that the metal sleeve that comes with the bellow is "pressed" inside it to push the bellow tight against the bell housing and cause it to seal. So, how do I get it out and how do I assemble the new one? Do I need a special tool?

Thanks

It is pressed in, There is a large plastic disk tool (merc) you put it in with. You may be able to pull it out whole but it usually comes out all bent up. Just buy one from BAM or a local merc parts guy, The tool works well but with some soap and a large flat board you may get it in with out damage. Or better yet borrow the tool.

Ray,

That's exactly what I did. Bent the old one to pull it and put the new one in with some Dawn, a piece of wood and a hammer.

Ray, Don't worry about the ring. A new one costs less than $10.00. I put one in today. I used the handle of a 3lb. sledge, after slicking it up real good and starting it in place by hand. It isn't necessary to completely seat the ring all the way. When you re-install the drive, the drive will push it into place. Be sure to use the bellows sealant. You can do this job without removing the bell housing, if you have a big bucket of patients. It can be a real dog . Don't forget to check the gimbal bearing and grease the u-joints while the drive is off.
