I was changing out the oil in both 330's for the first time since I bought the boat (late last season) and went to replace the filters, I can not get them off!!! I have tried everything I can think of!! The filter is starting to warp on me! I have no clue as to what the person used previously to put them on but they are a freaking moron!! Obviously waaaaaay toooo tight! Hand tight has always been my policy. I need some advise or any secret/hidden ways you guys know of on how to remove a stuck filter.


I know it sounds crazy.......but this F**ker is on there!!

I know this is simplistic, you've probably tried this already, but have you hammered two opposing screwdrivers into the filer and used them to turn it yet. It's always worked for me.

Unfortunately, it doesn't take a lot of force screwing the filter on, to get it stuck on there. If the seal was not lubricated first, it'll bake on there and prectically glue itself to the base.

Btw, I've had great luck with those "chain-style" filter wrenches, used really low on the base.

I should send you a mambership card to my club! Both oil filters, as well as both fuel filters were stuck on my 502 Mags. Everythiog that the last owner touched was over tightened.
I had a filer wrench that attached to a socket wrench... That quickly stripped off the top of the filters..
I went to the auto supply and bought a wrench that squeezes the filter as you pull. One oil filter crinkled but came off without too much trouble. The other crinkled badly and the wrench actually bent.
I drilled three holes in the filter wrench, then ran three little sheet metal screws through the wrench and the filter. It got ugly, but I got the filter off.
My next resort was going to use a small butane/propane torch to warm up the filter mount to try to get the gasket to lighten up...

You should change your spark plugs next... Chances are both motors have different plugs, changed at different times, and the inside rear plugs have never been changed! Oh, and two or four of the plugs are loose enough to take out by hand.

Next, Head under the dash to clean up his mess, and clean the connections. Give yourself about 10 hours to do this...

I've used a screwdriver in the past. It will make a mess but drive a long screwdriver through the filter and you should be able to get about 1/4 to 1/2 of a turn. That should loosen it enough to get it out. Good luck...

I just went through the same thing. I used a screwdriver and some cursing bad words!!!!!!!

"You have to hold your tongue in the right spot." As my father used to say.

I have had this problem before, and have used the screwdriver method and BFH, but the tongue and correct language as well are neccesary Good Luck.

On a car one time, I was lucky enough to have the screwdriver method fail! It just kept ripping the metal, then I had a real mess on my hands when the bottom of the filter was completely torn off!

So far, I have done the screw-driver method, done the butane torch method, done the filter tool that wraps around the filter, that is what started to warp the filter.

I have not tried this chain type removal tool.....I will try that next I guess...their is just not much left of the filter to work with, I am really dealing with the very end of the filter, just not much to grab on to.
