Default Cabin Headroom on a 380??

Does anyone know what the headroom is on a 380 Powerquest?? I've been looking at the 38 special's (Baja) because of the headroom and the fact that you can get them with A/C, but Powerquest has a better quality

I looked at both of these quite extensively before purchasing the PQ. I would say interior size is very similar, and as far as I know, no other 38 seems close when it comes to cabin height. The Baja has a bit better storage configuration inside, IMO, but the PQ is faster and rides MUCH better in the rough. BTW, they both can come with AIR and a generator. Baja uses a kohler gen and I think PQ now uses a westerbeke. I have heard that the westerbeke is quieter without a soundshield then the kohler is with one.

One thing I really liked about the Baja, though, is the u-shaped seating option. It really makes the cockpit user friendly, but I think the extra room is a tradeoff against room to work in the engine compartment.

I have, as you might guess, a 34 Vyper which is nearly identical to the 38 in all aspects except that you can get the generator in the 38 since it has just over 1.5 feet more room in the engine compartment. The other areas where the room is added are 1 foot in the cabin and cockpit respectively. The headroom cannot be beat by any other boat in it's class. Also important to note is the ease of access into the cabin while standing and not having to bend over like in most offshore powerboats.
There are several things to consider when ordering a boat with regard to special and custom issues, so please feel free to contact those of us who ordered and dealt with the factory for our boats (BillR, Macklin, etc.).

Good luck!

Yup, I can say that first hand. I owned two Baja's before the PQ. I am not familiar with the 38 Special.....can it match the 5'7" of headroom that the PQ380 has? And Vyper really hit on a good point that immediately impressed me about the 380/340's. I can step into the cabin without having to contort my body. And my wife does not even have to lower her head. She can stand up at the kitchenette with room to spare.

Thanks for all the info!!!! Another reason I like the 38 special (Like woods said) is the cockpit seating, especially the fridge and sink!! It's kinda like a small express cruiser that you can still tow or go on a poker run with!! I wish someone else would build a boat like it!! With better quality!!!

If you travel w/ a group of offshores then be prepared to be the after hours party spot. Ive had 13 people and a dog in the cabin at one time.

Another nice feature of the 38 PQ is that the v-berth has an
inverted bed so your blood doesn't rush to your head while
your sleeping. Details, details, and details...

For what it is worth - we get lots of great comments on our cabins. Especially for the head room.
