Default alpha gen 1 VS. alpha gen 2

what is the main difference between the gen1 and gen2 alpha's.

a friend of mine asked me if the gen2 will work on a gen1 housing. So i guess that is my main question. will it bolt up and work?

If your asking, will the
drive ( gen II) bolt up to the
gen I bell housing?......... No.

A gen 1 will bolt up to a gen 2 gimbal with some machinig to the gimbal price is about 150 dollars. I looked into putting a Alpha SS on a gen 2 a couple shops said they could machie it to fit. still have the SS for sale. Sold the boat I was going to put it on.

Default Alpha SS on Gen II transom

I just did all of the engineering, machining and installation of an Alpha SS on my GEN II transom Assy this spring.. there is a short thread @ donzi.net which shows some of the modifications required. takes longer to get the bellhousing off of the transom assy than it does to do the modification. Bout 50 bucks in parts and an hour or two of mill work including the setup time...

i have not done the GEN II onto a GEN I transom assy but i believe it could easily be done. you will need GEN II trim cylinders and cross bars, etc. You will need to swap the upper shift shaft from a GEN I to a GEN II (gen II is longer and narrow). You will also not have the benefit of remote oil monitoring.
