I like the 525's too but the 496 is a tough motor too. Many are designing hop ups for the 496. I seen ASM has a 600 or 650 HP NA package + I know Tyler Crockett has a system for the 496 that is like 650 Hp (Don't quote me) One nice thing is you can only pay for a 496 not a 496HO or 500 or 525 and after the mods have more HP than all three.

If resale is important the 500 or 525 is best but you pay for it up front. If HP and saving money is important then the 496 I think is the bargain.

Here you are looking at about $45,000 for 940Hp. For about $22,000 + you can get 850 Hp. Its a lot of $$$ for 90 Hp!

Bothe engines are nice set ups but is all about the HP baby. I run the 525's w/ITS Totally awesome.

And no warranty also..... If you do the math it's about a 15K upgrade for the HP525/Sportmaster/ITS Wardey

Intregrated Transom System... or assembly. ITS is a new turnkey package from Mercury for the B1(X, XR, XZ) drive that incorporates a built in set back box, and internal hydraulic steering.

Let's cut to the chase folks. It's simply a matter of economics. More horsey's is a no-brainer unless you're in the wrong kind of boat....
