My brother is looking at a 1998 or 99 24 outlaw with a 454 310 horse. How fast are these hulls? How about with a 454 Mag or 502 Mag? How much power does it take to push it to 80 or so? Any input would be great. Thanks Greg

A 24 with a 310hp 454 will be at best in the upper 50's. A 385hp 454MAG should see low 60's and a 502MAG might make her go in the upper 60's. 80 is going to take some serious horsepower.
Allan4 might chime in here...He's got a 24 running some big hp.
It's not a particularly fast hull, but is very stable and will deliver a superior ride compared to most boats in its size.

I had a 1998 that came with a 7.4 (310HP). Once the engine was broken in I made one WOT run. Only say 55 on the speedo. It was so depressing I never made another WOT run the rest of the year. That winter I put in a 502. Saw 66-67 on the speedo with the 502. Never checked it with GPS

I'm running with approx 550 hp and my best is 75 mph. Gonna take well into 600 plus horsepower to hit 80.

HPJUNKIE....I sent you a response PM
Yup....right on guys, I think you are all accurate.
You will need about 650hp and tq to get 81 or 82ish...
They just are not that fast of a hull and have a very low X. They hit "the wall" in the low 80's. They can be a little tricky to drive in the 70's at times also, especiallly aired out. ALL OF YOU NEED STEERING IF YOU ARE RUNNING OVER 60MPH!!!!! My sugestion anyway. E-mail or pm me and I will shoot you some prices. In order to run fast you need the proper safety stuff. Why do you think ALL race boats have hydro steering?? I can beat all other popular makes in price, have equal-to-superior equipment, and will give OSO members a discount.
520hp gets me about 72-73 ish....empty...VERY empty.
I can get about 68-69 if I am lucky in a race setup (ballast, fuel, passenger) etc...That ballast really scrubs off speed. Works out well though...P5 is 69mph and under, so I am within the calss rules.
But....with a good tq motor, I have also seen 68-69 with 5 people in 1-2 chop. Key is stern lift....
Hope this helps. I am serious about the steering. Yes, I do sell the systems, but I had one on my boat long before I started selling them.
Have fun, be safe
