Post Mark4 - Gen 5 to Gen 6 swap over????

What is the difference in the flywheel position if anything? Is all that stuff the same? I know that the Gen 5 and 6 use a different flywheel it seems to be thicker, are there any forseable problems with bolting up to my TRS Merc Trans?

Thanks
Jon

No differance in "position", as you said. The differance is in bolt pattern and balance.
They aren't interchangeable.

Everything will bolt up fine except the altenator bracket will need to be drilled out and the power steering bracket. If I remember right. No problems with the bell housings.

Ok and one last thing that I just noticed. There seems to be a small metal insert in the crank of the Mark 4 block. It looks like it is a pilot for the drive shaft of the transmisions. Can that be bought? Made? The machinist said not problem with making one for me, but wanted me to ask if it could be bought first. I looked on some micro fiche and could not find it.

The pilot bushing in the back of the crank must be used or the pump shaft will wobble and grenade the pump. The old one can be removed from the old crank and installed into the new engine. I was unable to find a new one so was forced to use the old one. To remove the pilot bushing get a wooden dowel that is just a hair bigger than the hole in the back of the bushing. Fill the back of the bushing through the hole with grease it must be competely packed with grease. Drive the wooden dowel in the hole with a hammer and the hydralic pressure will push the bushing out. You will have to cut the dowel and drill it out of the bushing, clean it up and install in new engine. When I was told this I thought no way this is ever going to work but I was shocked how will it did and how easy it was to do. I put the bushing from a Mark4 to a Gen5.

Thank you B.R.S. I would have never thought of that but it does make sence. Unfortunatly the thing is packed up and ready to ship. I will pass that info along to the new owner and hopefully he can ship it back to me

Audiofn whatever you do get those pilot bushings back because you will be screwed without them. I did the same swap about 4 years ago and that was the only problem I ran into. Glad I could be of help, if you have any other questions about making the swap shoot me your # and I'll be glad to give you a call.

Any good engine balancer can do this for you. Can I assume your Gen 5 has been internally balanced?
