I have just installed a full hydraulic steering system.

I am using the stock pump and stock cap. The cap keeps releasing the air in the system which is good, excep[t it also is dripping fluid all over my freshly cleaned bilge.

What can I do to eliminate this problem? I know that I should also install a reservoir tank and need to plumb this to the cap somehow.

Please advise on how to correct this situation.

Yep, I had the same problem with my system. I'd fill the reservoir and then it would puke. I finally gave up and added a remove reservoir and it solved the problem. Just make sure the line pitches upwards to the reservoir. Low points will trap air.

I have a remote reservoir that is plumbed into the stock power steering reservoir. The picture is how I bought the boat. I have since relocated the remote reservoir and rerouted all of the plumbing, shown in the picture, just to clean up the appearance. I still have the "remote" plumbed into the top of the "stock" unit. I fill the "remote" to 30%-40% of it's capacity. I want to leave room for expansion. The black hose, on the side of the "remote", is the return line from the oil/ps cooler. The steel braided line comes off of the bottom of the "remote" and goes to the blue anodized cap/fitting on the stock unit.
I do not know where the previous owner purchased the blue anodized replacement cap/fitting on the stock reservoir that is shown.

The cap is shown on IMCO's site. I got mine from CPPerformance.

Put in a big cooler, "Like a 10-12" engine cooler, and you may not even need the tank.
