Post Need Info on Merc XZ Drives

In shopping for a new boat the two I have found with 500 EFI's have XZ drives with side water pick up.

I have never heard of the XZ. I assume it falls somewhere between the Bravo 1 and the XR but would like to confirm and get a horsepower rating. The other thing that really surprised me was the side water pickup. The dealer tells be that Merc is making this standard because of all the impeller problems caused by the low water pick up. Anyone know the real truth about. I want to have the facts before I make any deals.

Here is a page that describes the changes in the new drives.
