Default Changing registration numbers after buying boat from another state?

When you buy from another state, and re register in you own, how do you go about obtaining new numbers?

Go to the BMV just like you would to renew an expired state sticker and tell them you need to register a new boat or what??

In MD you must transfer the title of the boat and then register it. The DNR (Dept. of Natural Resources) will issue you a new title, registration, and numbers. You must register the trailer seperately through the DMV.

In Nebraska, we go to the DMV and register it just like a car. They assign the new numbers and then you go get them made--in colors to match the boat of course.

In Georgia they simply throw yout title away and give you a new reg.# and card and when you try to transfer to a stste with a title it takes about 6 months.
My recommendation is to some how hang onto your title an give Georgia a notarized bill of sale.

My boat came from Indiana. When I went to register it in Michigan it was no problem. Had to pay the sales tax, of course, and you will get new hull numbers. Nothing to worry about, really. No different than buying a car out of state and then bringing it home. What kind of boat are you thinking about?
