Default Prop Help?

I am running a 2001 PowerQuest 260 SX with a 454 MAG EFI equipped with a Stage 2 ProCharger making 5.5 lbs of boost at 5000 RPM. I have upgraded the entire fuel system with Aeromotive and have a custom computer done by Precision Marine. I am currently running a stock 26" Bravo One prop through a 1.50 Bravo One drive. I was thinking of having my prop lab finished and turned out to a 27" for more top end. My boat no longer has the factory rev limiter and my engine has been upgraded with better head gaskets to survive the boost. What are your thoughts on running the engine to 5400 RPM and what kind of speed improvements can be expected?
Thanks
Ty

I would suggest running the boat with the prop you have now to see if the rpm has increased with the recent mods you have done to it.

Then try a 24 Bravo 1 prop and see if the boat is faster at the higher rpm. If it is, that means the motor is putting out more horsepower at the higher rpm, then prop it out for the higher rpm. If not, go back to 5000 rpm at WOT.

After you have determined where the motor makes the most HP then start trying different props to see which one you like the most. Single engine boats are very sensitive to prop changes.

As far as speed gains. It depends on your motor and which prop you choose. If your motor makes more power at a higher rpm that alone may net you a couple mph. Then add a couple more with the right prop and it may be possible to see a total gain of 5 mph. A couple months ago a customer of ours gained 9 mph just by changing props, not even lab finished. Of course gaining 9 mph from a prop is not typical. It just goes to show that having the right prop for your boat/motor set-up can make huge gains in speed.

We would be able to provide you with Bravo 1 stock or lab finished test props, Hydromotive Quad 4 and Quad 4X test props and a five blade, depending on the pitch.

Let us know if we can help.
