Default prop help?

Ok, I have a 415hp 454 mag in a 22 Pachanga. It used to have a 1.32:1 AlphaSS drive 22p 4 blade and ran indicated best of 74 at 4800, 10 gal. of gas and me(180lbs.) Now I have a B1 drive 1.50:1 and 21p 3 blade, it runs indicated 70 @ 5000-5050. Do y'all think I should go up to a 22p or 23p, get another mph or 2 out of it?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know. Something doesn't seem to be adding up. Either your pitch, the tach, speedo or drive is off. They add up to be 0% slip, which can't be right. Even your old combination comes up with a 3% slip. I'm thinking your tach or speedo is off. Are these gps numbers?

KHO302,

I ran some theoreticals and for top end the 3 Blade is going to be your best bet. You are running at optimal RPM at WOT at the 5000-5050 for the 454 Mag. If you go to the 4 blade your slip will decrease a bit, but by looking at the 22P or 23P you are simply swapping Pitch for RPM but I don't think that you are going to net any increases in speed. You may actually see a decrease by going to a 4Blade.

Julie, you nailed it. Thats what I was trying to ask

"by looking at the 22P or 23P you are simply swapping Pitch for RPM" so I believe I'll stick with what I got now.

Cord, no those are dashboard numbers. I guess I'm gonna break down and buy a GPS. Any suggestions?

I'm using a Garmin handheld and I'm very happy with it. Powerboat just did a short comparisson between some different models. Get an actual speed number and then post back on this thread.

I believe that my unit is now discontinued. I'm using a emap. It's hand held grey scale unit. Very large viewing area which is an important feature. I wanted a hand held unit so that it would be more useful. I take this thing everywhere with me. I'll take it hiking, biking, snowmobiling, boating, I even used it once on a flight back from Florida!
