Default Advice on a color chartplotter/GPS

I'm replacing a gray scale Simrad unit and want to go color.

Looking at:

Simrad 34/44/54 series
Garmin 2006C and 2010C
Standard Horizon CP1000C
Navman 5600 and 6600

Would really appreciate any advice from those using any of these. What you like, dislike, where you found the best prices, etc...

If you want a cool option for marine navigation look into the hand held PDA option. If you get a IPAQ 2210 it has a cf an sd slot. You can get a GPS receiver that clips in the cf slot and with the proper progam(FUGAWI,MAPTEK,OZINAVIGATOR)you have a pocket navigator. The thing that is a bonus with this unit is you have the sd expansion slot to store chart data on.You will need charts as well. Here in Canada you can buy BSB charts which are identical to the Canadian Hydro graphic charts. You can also use this unit for road navigation with the proper software. As well you can get Army Corp Engineer charts and topo maps for off road use. This technology also can be used with a lap top but I find that the PDA unit is ideal for a high speed boat where you don't have much dash area.Do your homwork and you will find that this is the best and cheapest route. You just have to get a little motivated to make it happen.

Harrisonmirage: Thanks. I've got the dash area -but it's just a big whole right now. Need to fill it.

Jon: Been PM'ing you about putting a new system in. Have you been getting them?

Damdonzi:
I am using a smaller 6" screen CP170 Standard Horizon color unit on my boat now and the toggle cursor and the sunlight viewable screen are the best ones yet! I would go for the big Standard Horizon unit if your hole is that big. They use the CMAP NT+ charts which list everything including the closest Watering Holes! Ha!
Good Luck,
Raylar
