Who builds them?

Damen Shipyards ( www.damen.nl) in the Netherlands manufactures the aluminum vessel attached. These vessels were specifically designed to intercept and disable vessels smuggling goods into mainland China.

The vessels have a reinforced bow which enables them to disable the outboards on the target vessel. The other requirements were to perform commercially at 40 kts in sea state 5 and 60 kts in sea state 3. This makes them quite heavy at 18-20,000 pounds.

The vessel was outfitted with Innovation 575 hp engines, Huber HM 1200 gears and Konrad 540 drives. The systems are required to run continuously.

There is a company called Hy-Lite in Sarnia, Ontario that makes beautiful 40 and 48 ft aluminum boats. They are double hull with foam between the layers. Light and fast. They are custom built, so you can get any power options.
