Post Exhaust tips and more

I removed my exhaust tips yesterday to buff them. They removed easily because there was no sealant between the flange and the transom. The wood in the transom is wet but not rotten. I don't know how long these tips were on there without sealant

Should I let it dry for a few months and see how it does.? Should I use Get-Rot or another product like that. Also what sealer/sealant should I user when re-installing them.?

Thanks

Definetly let the wood dry before re-assembly! I had the same issue when i was changing my exhaust. Luckly for me i was cutting the holes out to 4" from 3" so all i had to do was put a heat lamp back there for a little while.
I also sealed the wood with some epoxy before i installed the new tips and sealed around the edges with 5200 fast cure. Hope that helps ya!

Let it dry out . Use a heat lamp if needed .Obviously below the hole will be wetter . If you have any dought ,carve it out .Use a dremel tool or something to take any rot out .It WILL spread if it is still wet . Just fill it back in with some glass and reson or gorila hair . When you put the tips back in ,Just use some good silicone caulk .make sure you get it all covered . Don't use any kind of epoxy for the tips ,you will never get them back off .

I would not use 5200 to re-assemble try 4200 instead. Someday you may wan't to remove them.
Sorry Wally I really hate the stuff used to own a wooden boat and someone used it to seam and sister the boards with cost me a fortune in mahogany. I also have a friend that has some exhaust tips that were installed with 5200 at the factory I think there still trying to figure out how to remove them (sound familiar Blueman?)

Thanks for the tips. I was working on the boat today for about 4 hours. I put a heat lamp on one operning and it dried very well. Does not seem to be any rot.
