Hard to get enough torque on them without the Merc 12 point tool.

That is my thought too. It is spec'd at 90-100 ft lbs, so that is not a conscern. This is on a freinds boat that is an hr away that I happened to catch while doing the drive service maintance yesterday. Just needed to know if the 1/2" was correct before drving back down there only to find out it is a bastard size. Or is it bigger? Had no tape measure to check while I was there.
