got my engine back together. But now I can't get any oil pressure. The oil pump will pump oil to the remote oil filter and i can blow air throw the out hose from the filter to the cooler and into the block. But what did I miss? I'm new at all of this. So any help would be great. Thanks

Took off the IN hose on the remote filter and turn the oil pump and it will pump alot of oil. So I don't think it's my oil pump. ???????????

Distrib. has to be in for oil pressure.

When I started her up the first time I discovered the problem. So the distributor was in. And I put a new filter on after I noticed the problem.

No pressure according to gauge? mechanical or electrical?
Did you reinstall the oil galley plugs behind the camshaft gear? What motor?

Put a mechanical gauge on her now. Yes the plugs are in. It is a chevy 502. Now I ground the gears off a old distributor and I'm turning the oil pump with a drill. It will pump alot of oil that what doesn't make sense to me. should I be able to get oil pressure like this?????

Yes, you should have pressure using that procedure. That is actually the correct way to prime. The distributer seals off the oil passage that feeds the lifters. That is what the 2 collars are that are on the distrib housing right above the gear. By grinding off the gear, you are still sealing this passage, but not turning the camshaft. So you should have pressure. Basically you just made an oil primer that you can buy from Summit or Jegs or ........ With the distrib. out and turning the oil pump with an extension only, this oil passage is open and the oil just runs back into the oil pan. You will see tons of oil down inside the hole, but not continuing thru the passages. So no pressure.

ok I'll try this tomorrow. But what are my options if this is or isn't happening. Thanks for your help. I'm clueless what to do.

Use the mechanical gauge, the old distrib with gear ground down and prime away. Forget the direction, but if it gargles and doesn't slow down the drill, go other way. Should have instant pressure after the oil filter gets full. Prime for a good minute providing drill doesn't burn up. It really pulls down a 3/8 drill.
