Default cross overs

Has anyone had any luck running cross overs on there engines? I installed them on my engines to clean up the installation.
During running the cams in yesterday ... the temp was cycling as the t-stat opened and closed.I figure not enough restriction in the cooling systems now.Water pressure was also cycling 20 psi to 3 psi @ 2200 rpm static.
Do I need to restrict the exit ports on the t-stat housing?

I'll try a few things and installing the original merc stuff is always a option. Just like the looks of the cross overs but do not want them causing any engine damage.

What are your water pressures? 20 psi to 3 psi? Am I reading that correctly? Do you mean 20 psi-30psi?
Do you have bypasses on your crossovers?
Have you done a "search" on crossovers on this site?

There is a ton of information in regards to this topic, in the archives.

RWL,
20 psi t-stat closed . 3 psi after t-stat opens. This is running on the trailer for cam break in. I know pressures will change while running on the water.

dont do it!!!!I did the research on the same subject...all the input was too much water pressure, steam pockets, blown head and intake gaskets, etc...if your not running a blower motor, crossovers are gonna drive you nuts and not going to get dependable results with em....

There are many people having good results with both systems, crossovers and stock.

737 Jetmech,
I built some 600ci n/a motors a couple of yrs ago and put the crossovers on them for the same reason, looks.
We also had a little troubleat first, however after we put on the thermostat housings with bypasses and the x-overs everthing worked great. Water pressure, temp, and no condensation in oil. It was a little more plumbing than I expected initially but you need to use all the parts to prevent condensation in oil. Good luck.

Your problem is due to the Tstat opening and closing as you've said.
You simply need a "minimum flow". drill a hole on both sides of the Tstat plate. about 1/8" on either side.
